CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Akinyi rearranged her room, checking that she had brought everything. Eventually, she opened the doors to the closet, and her mouth fell agape.
Beautiful dresses hung in it, most of them in shades of purple.
Adams had taken notice of her favourite colour. There was nothing she loved more than keenness in a man.
The shoe rack had six different shoesâtwo heeled, three sandals and a pair of flat-heeled pumps.
She tried them, and they fit neatly. Excited, she grabbed one of the dresses and found a handwritten note attached to it, handwritten.
I couldnât receive you but feel most welcome. I hope you like everything. See you at 8 pm for supper.
She held the note close to her heart and couldnât help going through it again.
By the time everything was in its rightful place, she was very exhausted. She lay on the bed to rest, closing her eyes.
The squeaking sound of the door jolted her awake. She sat up reluctantly, rubbing her eyes.
Adams leaned on the door with his hands in his pocket, eyeing her keenly.
âYou either come in or go out, Mr Adams Okal.â She smiled, and he walked across the room.
âDo you know that you snore like a trailer, Sexy Back?â he said, sitting on the bed.
âNo way. I sleep quietly like a baby,â she countered.
âWhere is that cat you were talking about?â he asked, surveying the place.
âThere is no cat. I was just toying with you.â
âThank God. Have you eaten supper?â he asked, and she shook her head.
âIâm too tired to eat. Maybe tomorrow.â She stifled a third yawn in two minutes.
âYou canât go to bed hungry. Letâs eat. I prefer my women fleshy.â He reached out, holding her hand already.
My women? He had the audacity to mention other women in her presence? How mannerless could a man get?
She wanted to reprimand him, then remembered the marriage was supposed to be a fake. She wasnât supposed to take things so seriously, yet it was still unsettling.
When they got to the dining room, the table was already set, and they sat down to eat. The meal consisted of grilled beef, sukuma wiki and ugali. It smelled heavenly, and the taste was even better. Mama Awino could really cook.
She looked at him across the table and found him eyeing her. âWhat?â
He just chuckled. âItâs just that I am so taken by your beauty. I canât help but stare.â
She blushed. The man knew just what to say, didnât he?
She suddenly lost her appetite for food, developing a craving for other things she couldnât dare say. She started picking out the tomatoes from her food.
âEat your food unless you want me to feed you like a small baby,â he warned.
âDo you know how old I am? Iâm past being fed,â she retorted with a smile.
âOf course, no one can convince me youâre a baby with a body like yours.â He grinned, staring at her body approvingly, lingering a little longer on her breasts.
As if on cue, her nipples hardened beneath her dress. How would
